Equal Rights

After the French Revolution, Napoleon abandoned all that old "Liberty, Equality, Brotherhood" talk and began looking out for himself. After an attempt on his life, he declared himself emperor and set out to conquer a fair bit of Europe. It wasn't until he hit Russia that he began to have real problems. Napoleon's 1812 defeat in Russia marked the beginning of the end, and in 1814 he abdicated the throne and was exiled to the island of Elba. He made a brief comeback, but was defeated at Waterloo, and sent to another island, where this time, he managed to stay put.
