Lennon and McCartney: Hey Jude

With a length of over seven minutes, Hey Jude flew in the face of the tradition of radio that dictated a song should be no longer than three minutes long. Recorded in one take, the "Jude" in the title was actually a reference by Paul to John's first son, JULIAN LENNON. JULIAN and John's other son, Sean, have both become successful musicians, although it will be hard for either of them to reach the immense level of popularity that their father enjoyed during his brief 40-year life.
