Borodin: Polovtsian Dances

Borodin began his studies of CHEMISTRY early—by making fireworks as a kid! These "scientific pursuits" did eventually turn legitimate. He studied science at university, and went on to become a noted CHEMISTRY professor and researcher. During his time in school, his hobby of music would sometimes conflict with his scientific studies. Borodin's scientific mentor during his student days said, "‘Mr Borodin, busy yourself a little less with songs. I'm putting all my hopes in you as my successor, but all you think of is music: you can't hunt two hares at the same time." Borodin still made time to play chamber music with friends and compose, but remained primarily a scientist.
