Sonate Al Pizzico and Alfabeto

Lutenist Stephen Stubbs and harpist Maxine Eilander are two luminaries in Early Music, often appearing with many world-class ensembles. Their 2004 ATMA recording entitled Sonate Al Pizzico showcases their talents as a duo.

The program is drawn from the guitar, theorbo, harp, and harpsichord repertoire of the 17th Century, all beautifully performed with great energy and poetry.

Rolf Lislevand’s 2001 Astree recording with Ensemble Kapsberger of 17th-century guitar music is a definite classic. The CD focuses on the works of Francesco Corbetta and is delivered with a crossover feel, somewhere in between the baroque of three-and-a-half centuries ago and today’s world music.
