Night Lights, Big City: Night Lights Debuts On WBGO This Week

New York, New York, it's a helluva town, especially for jazz radio: beginning this week, Night Lights can be heard on WBGO, the Newark-based, world-renowned station that programs jazz 24 hours a day for the New York City area and beyond. Night Lights will air on WBGO Saturday mornings at 6 a.m. EST, right before Bob Porter's Portraits In Blue.

Connect the jocks: guess where WBGO drivetime jazz DJ Michael Bourne, coming up on his 30th anniversary at the station, got his start? WFIU, the NPR member station in Bloomington, Indiana where Night Lights is produced. Bourne held down the weekday afternoon chair here from 1972 to 1984, then decided, as the Slide Hampton song says, to "go east, young man," and has been at WBGO ever since.
