Extreme weather, poor air quality put Hoosiers at risk

Noon Edition airs on Fridays at noon on WFIU.

Four tornadoes hit five Indiana counties last Sunday. The counties were Monroe, Martin, Dubois, Daviess, and Johnson. Many homes and properties were damaged or destroyed and one death was recorded in Martin.

Residents throughout the Midwest also have been affected by poor air quality over the past few weeks because of wildfires in Canada. According to the Canadian National Fire Database, lightning strikes account for about half of forest fires in Canada.

Indiana is under a code orange alert on the air quality index, indicating unhealthy conditions. Some parts of the Midwest have been issued a code red for very unhealthy conditions.

This Friday on Noon Edition, we will talk with experts about the recent weather effects and air quality in Indiana.
