The Big Ten continues to expand, adding the University of Oregon and the University of Washington. That follows the conference adding UCLA and USC last year to open its west coast market.
Oregon and Washington will be expected to receive about $30 million annually after joining, unlike their previous counterparts, USC and UCLA, which are expected to receive over $60 million from the new deal. Previous Big Ten additions that also didn’t receive full revenue shares immediately include Maryland, Nebraska and Rutgers. More revenue from other media streams and platforms is anticipated.

With the traditional structure of college athletics slowly fading away, many have concerns about the impacts these additions could have on student athletes. One major concern is that this expansion is only beneficial for football, disregarding schedules, travel, or the future of the many other men’s and women’s sports the Big Ten offers.
