The MCCSC superintendent and school board president discuss their plans for the future

Markay Winston is the new superintendent of the Monroe County Community School Corporation. She was previously the interim superintendent, following the buyout of the former superintendent Jeff Hauswald.

Winston has previously worked as the MCCSC deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Winston is also an adjunct professor at IU’s School of Education.

After taking on her role, Winston released a multi-phased entry plan focused on community listening, learning, and examining MCCSC’s organizational health. 

Some of her goals includes removing “opportunity gaps” for students and reviewing MCCSC's financial health.

In the six months she served as interim superintendent, Winston held nearly 200 listening sessions with individuals in the community. 

This week on Noon Edition we’ll talk with Markay Winston, the MCCSC superintendent and April Hennessy, school board president, to discuss issues facing the system.
