The Green County Sheriff's Office says a motorcycle struck a vehicle that was pulling out of an access road after making a U-turn. The motorcyclist died after being ejected; the other driver wasn't injured.

Until the mid-2010s, roads were getting safer. Traffic fatalities decreased significantly for three decades before stalling and eventually rising in 2020.

Nicholas Nair, 20, of Denton, Texas; Gavin Short, 19, of Grayslake, Illinois; and Drake Brooks, 22, of Evansville, Indiana, died in the crash shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to an OHP report.

Ronnie Hapner, 35, is now charged with two felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and injury while driving while intoxicated, The Elkhart Truth reported.
