The Monroe County Election Board removed Randy Cassady’s name from the November ballot Thursday because he did not meet the residency requirements to run.

The Monroe County Commissioners unanimously approved a petition to rezone a 4.1 acre property at the corner of West Airport Road and State Road 45.

Indiana University law professor Jody Madeira is running for the Monroe County Commissioner District 3 seat. Madeira is running against incumbent Penny Githens.

The city wants to take over the expansion project and daily operations. The county wants to pick up where discussion left off before the pandemic and create a capital improvement board.

The commissioners’ unanimous decision comes as Hoosiers will no longer need a permit to carry a handgun in public starting Friday.

Currently only 14 properties in the county are zoned Heavy Industrial (HI).
