Monroe County Commissioners extend mask mandate

Monroe County’s mask mandate is still in place after county commissioners met Wednesday morning to adopt an extension of the public health order.

The county board of health last week voted to extend the health order until Nov. 30. The commissioners concurred today, agreeing to extend the order until the county is counting fewer than 50 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents and is in the “blue” advisory on the state COVID-19 dashboard.

Monroe County is still in the yellow advisory on the state map, which it has been for a month. Cases per 100,000 have been declining since September.

The Monroe County Health Commissioner Penny Caudill said declining numbers are encouraging signs that the county will “soon reach moderate to low levels of transmission.”
