A Bloomington city department head says she’s open to studying permanently closing some of Kirkwood Avenue to drivers.

The City of Bloomington is considering a long-term extension of a program that temporarily closes Kirkwood Avenue to motor vehicles every year.

The nonprofit bookstore will be volunteer-led and focus on engaging the Bloomington community through curated book collections, reading groups, film screenings and various speakers and events.

Indiana Avenue will be closed for about ten weeks, and will reopen at the beginning of August.

Head to downtown Bloomington Friday Nov. 25 for an annual celebration with music, crafts and more while Santa Claus lights up the square.

The city closed three blocks of Kirkwood Avenue for periods over the last two years but is not saying whether the closure will resume next spring.

The Buskirk-Chumley Theater hosted the final public screening of the book-adapted movie, “So Cold the River” last Friday featuring the launch of Cardinal Spirits’ “So Cold the Vodka”.

The existing second floor and top three floors of the new structure will become residential space.

Resolution sponsors did propose a third amendment to spare the Climate Action and Resilience committee following last week’s discussion.

The Village Deli on Bloomington’s Kirkwood Ave. is reopening Friday.
