Construction for the Clear Creek Reconstruction project begins today, and aims to improve storm flooding and drainage in the downtown area.

Indiana Avenue will be closed for about ten weeks, according to a joint press release from the City of Bloomington Utilities and Milestone Contractors, the company doing construction. The Indiana Avenue closure spans from the intersection on Kirkwood, past Sample Gates, to the intersection on 6th Street.

Half of the Von Lee parking lot behind Noodles restaurant and metered parking spots in front of Bloomington Bagel will be closed until August. Kirkwood will remain open, and Dunn Street will remain open with a lane restriction until mid-March.

Amanda Turnipseed, director of IU parking operations, said construction will close 23 to 24 EMS spots in the Von Lee parking lot. To compensate, the parking lot at the corner of Sixth Street and Dunn Street has been converted to EMS-only spots.

“The university is not creating additional parking in areas where it does not currently exist for the temporary loss of these spaces,” Turnipseed said. “There are other areas where there are EMS spaces located that people have the opportunity to park.”
