Both bodies of two men who vanished last week when their kayaks capsized in Indianapolis were found Monday in the White River, authorities said.

Indiana Conservation Officers and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department are requesting civilian assistance to identify a woman who was found dead in the White River near Columbus.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officers are working with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department to identify a body they recovered from the east fork of the White River.

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the Halloween 1982 cold case slaying of a southern Indiana man, state police announced Tuesday on the 41st anniversary of the crime.

According to a Department of Natural Resources release, witnesses said the two had been swimming but were seen being carried downriver by the current before disappearing under the surface.

Jeremy Sweet, 39, of Columbus is charged with felony neglect of a dependent resulting in death, unlawful possession of a syringe and being a habitual offender.

Her body was discovered in the White River more than 2 miles from where her father was pulled from the same river Friday, according to Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Emma Sweet’s father was hospitalized with hypothermia and has given differing stories about what happened to her to investigators since duck hunters spotted his truck about 6 a.m. Friday in the East Fork of the White River.
