A new ALDI grocery store will open in Bloomington’s former Barnes & Noble on August 22.
A release from the company says the second location is part of a $3.4 billion investment to expand to 2,500 stores by the end of 2022.
ALDI announced its plans to add an eastside store in February of this year, after Barnes & Noble closed without explanation.
The company is currently remodeling its existing store on the west side of town.
The release says the new store will feature a 40 percent increase in its fresh food selection, as well as high ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally friendly building materials.
The new ALDI store at 2813 E. Third St. will open at 8:25 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, giveaways and product sampling.
ALDI has almost 2,000 stores in 36 states across the U.S.
