Bloomington's Halloween Superstore Owner Talks Halloween Trends For This Year

Halloween is a few days away and costume stores are busy with people looking for inspiration.

Kim McGuire owns the Halloween Superstore, previously Campus Costume, located near College Mall.

She says scary costumes and onesies have been popular with adults the last few years.

“Some of the most popular costumes right now is anything to do with 'IT,' so Pennywise everything has pretty much already sold out everywhere you go," she says. "The Purge is still pretty popular.”

According to the National Retail Federation, consumers nationally plan to spend $3.2 billion on costumes.

Slightly less than half of Americans say they plan to dress up.

If you do plan to dress up, McGuire says it’s better to go to a store rather than shop online.

“They’re supporting a local store," she says of shoppers who patronize Halloween Superstore. "It’s been locally owned and operated for 50 years.”

McGuire says shopping locally gives you the opportunity to put a costume together yourself, finding individual pieces rather than spending money on a whole outfit.
