Some Bloomington residents rallied Sunday to ask for another downtown recycling center after the city closed its center at West 10 th Street last month.
The city closed that location to free up roughly 19 parking spaces near the soon-to-be developed Tech Park.
Now, a volunteer group called the Bloomington Indiana Recycling Collective is asking the community to help find a new location for recycling downtown. Caddie Alford, co-founder of the group, says the center was vital.
"Almost every day we had about 100 to 150 people come by with recycling and a lot of people told me that they couldn't make it to the other site," Alford says.
Alford says the closest recycling center is near the animal shelter on South Walnut Street, but it's too far for many people. At the rally she asked the crowd of roughly 30 people to help find four vacant parking spots somewhere downtown where another recycling center can open.
