Gov. Holcomb Signs ATV Helmet Bill Into Law

Gov. Eric Holcomb has signed legislation requiring kids under the age of 18 to wear a helmet when riding all-terrain vehicles or ATVs.

An Indiana mom began pushing for the helmet legislation after her daughter Kate Bruggenschmidt died in an ATV accident in 2015. HB 1200 became known as the "Play For Kate" bill.

Legislators who backed the law say the law is about creating safety awareness.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says 2016 marked the deadliest year on record for ATV accidents and that officials are ramping up awareness efforts.
