Kokomo Man Dies At Hospital After Arrest

The Kokomo Police Department and Howard County Coroner's Office are investigating after a 21-year-old man died at the hospital following his arrest Friday.

According to police, Tavaris McGuire was one of three men taken into custody following a traffic stop late Friday night. Police arrested him on charges of possession of methamphetamine and dealing methamphetamine. Officers transported McGuire to the jail. During the booking process, police say McGuire started behaving erratically and clutching his chest.

Officers contacted medics, who responded to the Howard County Criminal Justice Center. They took McGuire to Saint Vincent Hospital in an ambulance and he died shortly after.

The Kokomo Police Department says McGuire's cause of death won't be known until toxicology reports return.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective James Neilson at (765) 456-7363, or the Kokomo Police Hotline at (765) 456-7017.
