Middle Way House Celebrates Donation Milestone

Bloomington-based Middle Way House, Inc. is celebrating donors that helped the non-profit domestic violence shelter pay off the mortgage on its New Wings building.

The New Wings building holds many services provided by Middle Way House, including emergency shelter, a 24 hour crisis line, and a legal advocacy program.

Tuesday afternoon staff members debuted a banner outside of the New Wings building  that lists names of contributors.

Middle Way House says its "I'm With Jesse" campaign raised over a half a million dollars. It was started by former executive director Toby Strout's daughter, Anna Strout and actor Jesse Eisenberg.

Debra Morrow is the current Executive Director of Middle Way House. She says the donations show people believe in the work done by Middle Way House.

"It shows that we live in a community and a world that believes in organizations that work hard to help others," Morrow says.

Morrow says donations came from across the country, and even China. She says donations give Middle Way House some security.

"There's always new struggles that come up, but today we'll celebrate in the glory that all of these wonderful people have done to help us see this mortgage paid off." Morrow says.

Morrow says Middle Way's "Rise" transitional housing building is not yet paid off.
