Indiana State Police say state officials collected 1,245 pounds of unused or expired medication over the weekend as part of the nationwide "Prescription Drug Take Back" initiative.
The Drug Enforcement Administration sponsors the event each year in an attempt to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft.
More than 65 drop off locations across the Hoosier state were set up Saturday, including at all but one State Police post.
In district 33, which includes Monroe, Brown and Lawrence Counties, police collected 140 pounds of medication.
