The City of Bloomington will start using a new system for trash and recycling pickup next week.
The plan allows residents to choose from three different sizes of trash disposal bins and to pay for the trash collection through a monthly fee in combination with their water bills.
The new sanitation plan will go into effect Oct. 2.
Bloomington Director of Public Works Adam Wason is encouraging residents to pay close attention to the implementation timeline to ensure a smooth transition.
In a statement, Wason offers the following tips:
Timeline
Sep. 11 – 28: New waste and recycling carts delivered to customers.
Oct. 2: New system launches, customers use new bins.
Oct. 9 – 19: Sanitation crews will pick up previous, unwanted bins placed on the curb next to new bins.
Oct. 16 – 28: Customers can get a refund for any unused trash stickers:
Trash sticker refunds will be issued in cash if less than $20, or by electronic funds transfer if for $20 or more.
