Flags To Be Flown At Half-Staff In Honor Of Columbus Soldier

Governor Eric Holcomb is directing flags to be flown at half-staff in Columbus Saturday in honor of U.S. Army Sergeant Jonathon Michael Hunter, who died in action in Afghanistan.

Hunter is a 2011 graduate of Columbus East High School and was killed when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden car into a NATO convoy outside Kandahar. The Taliban took responsibility for the attack.

Hundreds of people lined the streets earlier this week when Hunter's body returned to his hometown. His funeral is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Columbus East High School. Hunter is the second graduate of the school to be killed in Afghanistan.

Flags will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of his funeral.
