MCCSC Superintendent Apologizes In Letter For Busing Issues

After a rough start to the school year, the superintendent of Monroe County Community Schools sent a letter to parents this afternoon apologizing for busing issues.

Earlier this week, routes were delayed as many as 90 minutes on the first day of school Wednesday.

Superintendent Judith Demuth writes in her email, "Please accept my deepest apologies for the confusion, concern and stress we have caused your family this week as we work through our transportation issues. The safety of students and staff is our highest priority. Due to many complications and the lack of communication in transportation, I know we have certainly diminished your confidence."

Demuth says the district is working to address the length of its routes and the overcrowding of buses. It's also trying to fix issues with its "Here Comes The Bus" app.

The busing woes come during the corporation's first year outsourcing bus routes to Auxilio, a company that also provides busing services to Muncie schools. That district had to cancel multiple days of school last week after similar problems on the first day of school.
