Former Planned Parenthood Employee Sues For Discrimination

A former employee of Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky is suing the advocacy arm of the organization for disability discrimination.

Angela Brown alleges the non-profit Planned Parenthood Advocates of Indiana and Kentucky "intentionally and willingly discriminated against" her after she received a cervical cancer diagnosis last year. Brown filed the lawsuit earlier this week in federal court.

According to court documents, Brown says the organization refused to accommodate her disability and made it difficult for her to take days off every three months for biopsies.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Indiana and Kentucky fired Brown in March of this year.

Ali Slocum is the spokesperson for Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky. She says her organization can’t comment on pending litigation, but it will continue to work with its human resources department and legal team.

“Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky is committed to high quality health care for our patients and a safe and respectful work environment for our employees," she says.

Brown is seeking lost wages and damages. She also wants to be reinstated to her position.

Brown’s attorney was not available for comment.
