A Quaff ON! Brewing Company expansion in Brown County is under construction after the Nashville Town Council voted unanimously to annex about 230 acres of property for the project.
The council heard public testimony and completed a fiscal analysis before voting unanimously in late September to annex the property.
Nashville Town Manager and Economic Development Director Scott Rudd says the Town Council recognizes the benefits of the expansion.
"It's an important economic development project for the town and the county and we look forward to seeing this destination come to fruition," Rudd says.
The proposal was a "supervoluntary" request, which means all of the landowners were in favor of annexing the property.
Brown County has already rezoned the property to meet the needs of the Hard Truth Hills expansion of the Quaff ON! Brewing Company.
The annexation will not be official until Jan. 3, 2018, but construction is already underway. A Quaff ON! representative says the welcome center will open in December.
Rudd declined to comment on an ongoing dispute between the Town of Nashville and Brown County about which entity will provide utilities to the brewery and restaurant.
Brown County Water Utility, Inc. is suing Nashville Town Council in federal court in a case that is ongoing, in addition to mediation between the two entities through the Indiana Regulatory Commission
