Vice President Mike Pence's visits to his hometown are costing the City of Columbus.
The police department went to the city council to ask for an additional $70,000 to cover overtime expenses.
Mayor Jim Lienhoop says about half of that is because of Pence's visits.
"We had several incidents that drove overtime for police and fire. But anytime you mention the Vice President's name, that's the headline so he got tagged with a good portion of that," Lienhoop says.
Pence has taken a few visits to his hometown of Columbus recently, including one for his son's wedding.
Lienhoop says the Secret Service provides requests outlining readiness or back-up.
But Lienhoop says the city is happy to help and calls Pence's visits an honor.
