Terre Haute attorney William Tanoos has announced he is running for Congress in Indiana's 8 th congressional district. Tanoos will run as a Democrat against incumbent Rep. Larry Bucshon.
"Growing up I remember kind of the optimism of the American dream, and there's a lot that's been said lately that the American dream may be dead, and I don't believe that," Tanoos says. "I certainly think we need to work to revive it and rebuild the middle class."
Buschon, a heart surgeon and native of Newburgh, Indiana, has held the seat since he was first elected in 2010.
Tanoos says his previous work as a disability attorney will inform things he would like to do in government.
"I think it gives you a hands-on, face-to-face perspective with the very types of voters that I'm trying to reach out to and quite frankly, our Congress should be representing," Tanoos says. "And those are again- good, hard-working Hoosiers that have fallen victim to circumstance through no fault of their own."
Tanoos practices law in Indiana's Northern and Southern Districts. He is a graduate of South Vigo High School, Indiana University, and the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
