Indiana University is investigating an alleged assault that occurred at the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity on campus Friday night. In a statement the university says the incident involved physical violence as well as anti-Semitic and racial slurs. Pi Kappa Phi is barred from participating in organizational activities until the case is resolved.
Security camera footage of the incident posted on Twitter shows about 10 people punching and kicking another person.
IU says campus Police and the Monroe County Prosecutor’s office are working together on the investigation.
IU Police Department Deputy Chief Shannon Bunger told WFIU in a statement that “a search warrant has been executed and the victims have been interviewed.” Bunger also says they have been made aware of allegations of “bias statements” made in the case.
IU spokesperson Chuck Carney says allegations of anti-Semitism and racial slurs were made by at least one of the victims and police are investigating those claims.
In a statement IU says it “condemns bias or violence in any form and will hold individuals and organizations accountable.”
