Bloomington’s new senior center will keep its doors open through next year.
Mayor John Hamilton made the announcement Tuesday at the Endwright East Center which is located in the College Mall. Hamilton says the city found the $20,000 needed to keep the center operating two days a week.
Hamilton joined community members and former Bloomington Mayor Tomi Allison who stressed its value to the community.
“Seniors want to be engaged, active and healthy and the Endwright East will help us to do so," Allison says.
The center opened as a pilot program six months ago to offer seniors a place to go in Bloomington. Endwright East is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 3p.m. It offers fitness programs like yoga and balance classes. It also serves as meeting place for seniors with painting, games and puzzles available.
The Area 10 Agency on Aging runs the Endwright Center. Officials there say they hope to eventually keep the center open three days a week.
