A new restaurant with international flair is setting up shop in the old Topo’s 403 building on North Walnut.

The Standard Grain is set to open next month, offering menus full of Mediterranean- and South Asian-inspired vegetarian options as well as steak, seafood and poultry dishes.

Owner and executive chef Michael Pantall was born in Mexico and raised in New Delhi. He’s been working on rehabbing the building, which used to be an events space, since mid-December of last year. He says diners can also expect “big, bad hamburgers and sandwiches” and the “best patio in Bloomington.”

The Standard Grain will host a ribbon-cutting and open house Feb. 12 at 5 p.m., complete with a menu tasting and wine and beer.

Pantall says the official opening is scheduled for Valentine’s Day and the restaurant is taking reservations now.
