North Lawrence Community Schools Moving Forward With Reorganization Plan

North Lawrence Community School leaders are moving forward with a plan to reduce their overall costs amid declining enrollment.

According to data from the Indiana State Department of Education, the district has lost more than 200 students in the last two years. The department identifies over half of the student population as “economically disadvantaged.”

The reorganization plan calls for halving the number of elementary schools the district currently operates, along with closing a middle school.

Ty Mungle is the superintendent at North Lawrence Community Schools. He says school officials have been meeting for months on how to restructure.

"It’s just become a real challenge to meet the needs of our students in so many facilities," he says.

The district plans to host a public meeting later next month to provide updates on the reorganization.
