Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton says though his wife has been hospitalized with COVID-19, he remains asymptomatic and has not been tested for the new coronavirus.

Hamilton’s wife, Indiana University law professor Dawn Johnsen, tested positive for the virus last week after exhibiting symptoms for just a few days. She was admitted to the hospital over the weekend.

Speaking with WTIU’s Joe Hren on “Ask The Mayor” Tuesday, Hamilton said not being able to visit Johnsen is stressful.

“I would want to be the room 24/7 with her, but I can’t even be there at all, so that’s a little hard," he says. "But she’s doing OK, and we got our fingers crossed.”

And despite Johnsen’s positive diagnosis and testing available to first responders, healthcare workers and public officials through IU Health, Hamilton says he has not been tested because he hasn’t experienced any symptoms.

He is currently self-isolating at home due to his exposure to Johnsen.
