The Indiana State Ethics Commission will meet today to consider a settlement between the state and a former BMV official. Shawn Walters is accused of taking a job with a company that he awarded a lucrative state contract. The settlement will be released after the Ethics Commission considers it today. Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton will hold a press conference today at 2:00 p.m. to discuss parking meter issues. In February, Hamilton announced the city's parking meters are failing at an "unacceptable" rate, resulting in estimated lost revenue of around $500,000. Issues include frozen keyboards, dead batteries, lack of backlighting and inoperable card readers. Follow Jessica Yarvin ( @JYarvin) for updates from the press conference.
From the Associated Press: One of Indiana's largest food banks has won a $100,000 federal grant to encourage food stamp recipients to purchase more fruits and vegetables. The Indianapolis-based Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana Inc. was among more than two dozen nonprofits groups around the nation to receive nearly $17 million in funding for the initiative. The grants will support creative community partnerships to boost low-income residents' purchases of healthy fruits and vegetables.
