Daybook: Donald Trump Rally & Scott County Needle Exchange

Good morning! Here are the stories our team will be following today:

  • GOP presidential candidate Donald J. Trump will be in Indianapolis today for a rally at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Trump won yesterday's New York primary. Indiana votes on May 3. Two separate groups are organizing protests outside the rally today. Doors open at noon and the event begins at 3:00 p.m. Follow Statehouse reporters Brandon Smith ( @BrandonJSmith5) and Drew Daudelin ( @DrewDaudelin) for live updates from the protests and rally.
    • Scott County commissioners are meeting today to discuss extending the county's syringe exchange program as it nears its one-year anniversary. The state has the final say in whether the program can continue for another year, so this is just one step in the process. Follow Barbara Brosher ( @BabsOfBtown) for more details.
      • The Indiana Supreme Court will celebrate the state's bicentennial today by holding oral arguments in the original Supreme Court Courtroom in Corydon. The small courtroom in Harrison County was the location of the first oral argument on May 5, 1817. Follow Brandon Smith ( @BrandonJSmith5) for more information on this bicentennial celebration.
        • An Indiana University hyrdologist has been awarded over $600,000 from the National Science Foundation to develop a data set detailing the conditions in streams and rivers in the United States and Canada. Darren Ficklin is an assistant professor in the Department of Geography at the IU Bloomington campus. Follow Nick Janzen ( @Nick_Janzen) for details.
