Daybook: Steel Tariff & Indiana Dunes State Park

Good morning! Here are some of the stories our team will be covering today:

  • The U.S. government last week imposed new tariffs on Chinese steelmakers amid accusations of international trade law violations. Gov. Mike Pence says the new tariff isn't enough for Indiana producers, and is joining a U.S. Steel complaint to the international trade commission to call for further investigation of steel dumping, which could result in a total ban of all unfairly traded Chinese imports. • The Indiana Dunes State Park has reported break-ins and other incidents that they say are perpetrated by those in opposition to an ongoing pavilion project that includes a banquet center. A private developer has been seeking an alcohol permit for the project, but local opposition prevented it until legislative action bypassed the local ATC board.
