Fire At Bloomington's Bender Lumber Causes Minimal Damage

A small electrical fire caused minimal damage at Bender Lumber in Bloomington. A manager detected the fire at the 11th Street store early Tuesday morning, and the fire department quickly put it out.

Bender Lumber owner Scott Bender says the fire started in the ceiling of the building when balusters in the lighting system shorted out.

There was minimal structural damage.

"Our lumber is in the back, and we have a lot of hardware items in there," Bender said. "You can get nails a little wet and they can still get driven."

A similar fire affected Bender Lumber in 2012, and the entire building burned down in 1974.

The store will reopen for business Tuesday afternoon.
