'Flamenco' Sculpture To Be Gifted To Columbus

The sculpture "Flamenco" will formally be given to Columbus in a dedication ceremony Wednesday night. It coincides with the artist's birthday; Chicago-based Ruth Aizuss Migdal is turning 84.

"Flamenco" first arrived in Columbus as a part of the Columbus Sculpture Biennial. Columbus residents enjoyed the sculpture so much, they raised more than $40,000 to purchase it for the city.

Columbus Area Arts Council Marketing Manager Geri Handley organized the fundraising effort.

"Everyone should experience art. And having public sculpture that is accessible to all is really important to me, and I hope to everyone," says Handley.

"Flamenco" is intended to abstractly resemble a dancing woman. The statue is tall, bright red, and made of steel.

It may eventually move from the corner of 4 th Street to a new location.

"There has been discussion about where the sculpture will it be located permanently. That will really be up to the city to decide," says Handley.
