As the immigrant population continues to grow in Indiana, the increase in need of accessible healthcare and bilingual services becomes evident, according to a recent survey.
Latinos have the highest rate of uninsured children among races in Indiana, according to the Indiana Latino Institute.
Institute president Marlene Dotson says focused education and prevention are key to reach these gaps.
"We have to educate our community so our providers need to invest more in prevention programing and our community also needs to come forward and educate them," Dotson says.
In the survey, forty percent of Latinos between eighteen and sixty-four years old reported being uninsured.
Latinos identified the absence of a positive relationship with law enforcement and lack of bilingual services as other primary needs.
