Indiana University will suspend staff memberships to recreational sports facilities for the 2020-2021 academic year to accommodate physical distance requirements.
“Recreational facilities are paid for by student fees, and the students need to have first priority on the use of those facilities,” said Executive Vice Provost Lauren Robel in an email.
In accordance to requirements for recreational sports facilities, the university must reduce capacity of its buildings by 75 percent. This includes the Student Recreational Sports Center, Garrett Fieldhouse, Woodlawn Field and Track, Woodlawn Tennis Courts, SRSC Tennis Courts and the Sembower Recreational Sports Field Complex.
Staff memberships will be suspended beginning July 1, 2020 along with payroll deductions and reinstated after the academic year or until instructed by public health authorities.
