Indiana Gov. Mike Pence faces a tight deadline to withdraw from the state's gubernatorial race if he is selected to be Donald Trump's vice presidential pick.
State law dictates that Pence cannot appear on the ballot as both a vice presidential nominee and a candidate for governor. He must withdraw by noon on July 15th.
Pence met with the presumed Republican presidential nominee over the weekend and is one of several people Trump is considering. After the meeting Trump tweeted that he was "very impressed" with Pence.
Spent time with Indiana Governor Mike Pence and family yesterday. Very impressed, great people! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 4, 2016
People with direct knowledge of Trump's vetting process say the list includes Pence, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions.
The Indiana Republican Party would select a new gubernatorial candidate to replace Pence if he withdraws.
