Frontier Communications has accepted $22.8 million from the Federal Communications Commission for a program that will expand and support broadband Internet access to around 60,000 homes and businesses in rural Indiana.
Frontier will receive that same amount annually for six years.
National FCC spokesperson Mark Wigfield says this program fills a vital need for internet access in rural areas
"That's one of the FCC's missions is to help make communications available across the country," says Wigfield.
This funding will bring internet access to all designated areas in Indiana by the end of 2020.
Vigo County will be one area covered by the program and should have over 2,000 residents supported.
