Former Congressman Baron Hill Announces Run For U.S. Senate

Former Democratic Congressman Baron Hill said in May he was planning to run for U.S. Senate, and now he's made it official. He will run for outgoing Republican Senator Dan Coats' seat in 2016.

Hill said in a statement Wednesday that he grew up in a small, low-income household in Seymour, Ind., where he learned the value of hard work and sacrifice:

"We face a crisis today as a people and as a nation. For too long, working people across America have been counted out, and left out, of our economic progress. And far too often, the deck is stacked against us in Washington and it is getting harder for average people who work hard and play by the rules to get ahead."

He ended the statement by saying he'll fight to restore the American Dream, the middle class, and to build an economy where everyone has the chance to succeed.
