Indiana University football says Antonio Allen has been dismissed from the IU football team effective immediately.
Indiana State Police arrested defensive back Antonio Allen Tuesday on several felony drug charges. He's being held at the Monroe County Jail.
After executing a search warrant at 421 E. 19th Street, police arrested the 20-year-old for the following charges:
The IU Department of Athletics released the following statement about Allen's arrest:
"Indiana University Athletics and the IU football program are aware of the arrest of junior defensive back Antonio Allen. Allen has been suspended from all football activities effective immediately. We will continue to gather facts, monitor the legal process, and take further action as the evolving situation warrants."
Allen was signed to IU in 2013 in a strong defensive class of recruits.
That year he sat out most of the season because of an ACL injury, but last year he led the team with 74 tackles, starting all 12 games of the season.
The Indy Star reports this is the third arrest of an IU football player in the past three months:
Defensive tackle Ralph Green III was arrested in April on charges of battery, public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Wide receiver Isaac Griffith was arrested last month on charges of driving while intoxicated.
