Bloomington Democratic mayoral candidate John Hamilton leads the race with 3,215 votes, or 58 percent of the vote.
Fellow Democrat Darryl Neher is trailing Hamilton with 2,288 votes, or 41 percent of the vote.
He and his supporters are awaiting the final results of Tuesday's election at his campaign headquarters, next to Rachael's Cafe in downtown Bloomington.
Hamilton says the voters have spoken, but now it's just a matter of waiting.
"This is the kind of night where you just kind of got to sit down and wait," Hamilton says. "We don't really know anything yet. It's a good time to remember we're all part of one city and see where it comes out."
The primary election tackled many different issues, but Hamilton says he's not sure there was one issue that drove voters to the polls.
"This campaign talked about a lot of things like jobs and affordable housing," he says. "I had 62 house parties and lots of different issues came up. People care about a lot of different issues in this community."
