The agency's decision restores access to more than $6.1 million in funds previously suspended over unresolved compliance issues with Kokomo's baseball stadium project. FEMA has argued Kokomo is not in compliance because the city is not keeping the land it bought with FEMA flood mitigation grants as green spaces.
2. A Purdue agronomist has received a thumbs up from the DEA to plant hemp.
Agronomist Ron Turco needed the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency's approval before he could order hemp seeds from Canada — and he got it. Turco and other Purdue researchers are taking a look at the potential for a hemp industry in the Hoosier State.
3. Some changes have been proposed to a Bloomington shelter.
The proposal would shift the leadership of Bloomington-area shelter Martha's House to Indianapolis-based Wheeler Mission Ministries. Martha's House lost its tax-exempt status last year after failing to file the proper paperwork. The organization's board of directors also proposed adding to a detoxification center to the shelter.
