Legislation that would alter the definition of a full-time work week passed in the House of Representatives last week.
Under the Save American Workers Act – co-sponsored by representative Todd Young, R-Indiana – "full-time," as defined under the Affordable Care Act, would shift from 30 to 40 hours per week.
Christopher Schrader, president of the human resources group Schrader and Associates, says the ACA has created an incentive for businesses to decrease employee's hours per week.
"The pro of the bill is that it takes away the economic incentive to hold worker's hours down," Schrader says.
He says President Obama's concern with the change is more uninsured workers and businesses shifting cost on the government.
