After two of its computer hard drives were stolen, the Indiana State Medical Association is notifying more than 39,000 people of a potential compromise of their personal information.
The two back-up hard drives were stolen in Feb. 13 incident. The association says an ISMA employee was transporting the hard drives to an off-site storage location when the theft occurred.
Those hard drives contained the names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers and other personal medical information of individuals who are either currently or formerly insured under ISMA insurance plans.
In a release, ISMA says it has notified the affected individuals and will offer one year of free credit monitoring and credit repair services.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the theft.
