Volunteers will help clean up the White River in Indianapolis Saturday.
The annual cleanup event will take place on the river banks.
It‘s estimated that 10 tons of trash will be removed. Volunteers have previously removed items including mattresses, tires and clothing. Sarah Holsapple with Citizens Energy says the cleanup has a significant impact.
"It's sometimes lost on people that the White River is our drinking water," she says. "It's not just a landmark in Indianapolis. It's more important than that."
Since the cleanup started 27 years ago, more than 1.5 million pounds of trash and debris have been collected.
