A six-week torch relay will lead up to Indiana's bicentennial, Gov. Mike Pence announced Thursday.
The relay is expected to begin at Indiana's old state capitol in Corydon in September 2016. The torch will travel through all 92 Indiana counties.
The route will stop at historic sites including Abraham Lincoln's boyhood home in Spencer County and Larry Bird's old basketball stomping grounds in French Lick.
The 2,300-mile relay's final stretch will bring the torch to the statehouse for a celebration in October of that year—two months before the state's 200th birthday.
The torch will be on the move six days a week, averaging 72 miles a day and taking Mondays off.
Local coordinators will begin accepting nominations for torchbearers in March.
